Saving Money on Florida Car Insurance Premiums

Let’s face it – we all like to save money when we shop, and shopping for insurance is no exception. Not all Florida car insurance is created equal so if you want to save on premiums, it is important to do plenty of research rather than just accept the first quote. It’s better to get several and compare them in detail, before making your decision; and don’t forget to ask whether you can get discounts based on the amount of driving you do and where you park your car, for example.
You are more likely to save on Florida car insurance premiums if you have the following factors in place:
- A good driving record. An accumulation of license points means higher premiums. Convictions for drunken driving will cost you dearly.
- A low rate of past accidents. If you have had few or no accidents, you’ll be seen as less of a risk to the insurance company.
- A low past claim rate. If you have a very minor accident it can be more prudent to avoid making a claim.
- You are over the age of 25. Unfortunately this is not something you can control, but if you develop into a safe driver with a good record, your premiums should reduce as you get older.
- The car you drive. Check vehicle safety ratings with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
- Taking our two or more policies with the same insurer can also result in discounts.
Much like other shopping, it pays to ask what discounts are available.
